About Dr. Anna Sheedy

Do you ever feel:

I can help you get unstuck, take risks, and own your past instead of letting it own you.

Chronic anxiety and traumatic stress have a way of having a firm hold on us. Our brains latch onto the pain of the past and convince us that our main task is to “stay safe” and “never let it happen again.” While safety is an important human need, too much of it can leave us feeling lonely and sad. You may have noticed that over time, in your efforts to protect yourself, your life has gotten smaller. You may feel regretful that you never went to that party, that concert, or that job interview. At some point, all of the things you missed out on add up, and you wonder how you got here.

It isn’t too late to learn how to face your fears.

I know how painful it can be to feel stuck in the past and terrified about the future; you feel frozen, paralyzed, and disconnected from the life you want. You struggle to be present because your mind is constantly predicting the worst. The good news is: you CAN get better! With firm, consistent support couched in a warm, validating relationship, you can learn how to change the way your brain responds to stress.

Feel accepted and connected while being pushed to try new things.

I believe in therapy, you deserve to have both, a place to feel validated and heard, AND, a place to learn skills to solve your problems. If you are struggling with an anxiety disorder, OCD, PTSD, or a personality disorder, I will help you navigate recovery in a way that balances acceptance and change. Even if it feels hopeless today, it is not too late to implement change tomorrow – one small step at a time.

Professional Biography

I graduated from La Salle University  with my doctorate in clinical psychology in 2017 where I was trained to provide evidence-based psychotherapy for a multitude of psychological problems. I completed practicum placements primarily in college counseling settings, where I developed a love for teaching skills to help young adults better regulate their emotions and helping trauma survivors find resilience and empowerment. I completed my post-doctoral residency at an outpatient facility where I specialized further in trauma, anxiety disorders, and personality disorders in teens and adults. I also obtained substantial experience consulting with parents and other family members on how to support teens and young adults I am passionate about the intersection of childhood trauma and Borderline Personality Disorder.

Treatment Philosophy and Style

1) Collaborative

We are true partners in the process. I may have the skills and knowledge to map out a path for you, but you are the expert of your own experience. We will work together to create a treatment program that is in line with your goals and values.

2) Radically Genuine

A tenet borrowed from DBT: radical genuineness embodies the spirit of being truthful, direct, and authentic in the room. I show up as myself, and I am not afraid to tell it like it is. I am professional, yet truly human and myself as a therapist.

3) Scientifically informed

All of my interventions are rooted in science. You deserve treatment that works to ease your suffering and solve your problems.

4) Values-driven

Finding out your most deeply held values will often be the driver of treatment. Values provide us with a sense of purpose. Clarifying them will help give us direction in treatment and enhance your motivation to make difficult changes.
